The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially passed the State College of Nursing and Midwifery Further Amendment Bill, culminating in a name change for the institution. The decision was made during the Assembly's resumed plenary session on Thursday, following a two-month recess.
The bill successfully passed its third reading after a comprehensive report was presented by Hon. Rilwan Gbadamosi Saminu, who represents the Saki East and Atisbo State Constituency. The report was a joint effort from the Committees on Health, Nutrition and Food Security and Education (Tertiary), Institutions, Science and Technology.
As a result of the amendment, the college will now be known as the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences. Hon. Saminu explained that the changes are designed to broaden the educational scope of the college, allowing graduates to participate in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps program.
Additionally, the amendment aims to provide constitutional support for the establishment of satellite campuses for the college, among other enhancements to its structure and operations.
