Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of cyberstalking, according to Vanguard.

A source within the EFCC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest, stating: “We picked him up based on several complaints that he used his social media platforms to harass, insult, and intimidate individuals — actions that may violate the Cybercrimes Act of 2015.” The identities of the complainants were not disclosed.

VDM, known for his outspoken and often controversial commentary online, is no stranger to legal troubles. In May 2024, he appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on five counts of cyberstalking. The charges stemmed from alleged harassment directed at the Nigeria Police Force and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.

Later, in November 2024, Otse was charged with impersonation after allegedly wearing a police uniform and presenting himself as a law enforcement officer. That case, brought before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court, also saw him plead not guilty. He was granted bail set at ₦2 million.

These incidents add to a growing list of legal battles for the influencer, highlighting the complex relationship between digital expression and Nigeria’s cybercrime laws. The Cybercrimes Act of 2015 outlines offenses including cyberstalking, online harassment, and impersonation, and serves as the primary legal framework governing online behavior in the country.

As the investigation into the latest allegations continues, the case underscores the increasing scrutiny on social media influencers and the legal implications of their online conduct.
