Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, has expressed his approval of the recent arrest of separatist agitator Simon Ekpa in Finland. Abaribe described the arrest as a significant step towards deterring violent activities in the southeastern region of Nigeria.
In an interview with Channels TV, Abaribe emphasized that Ekpa and his supporters have been exploiting the Biafra agitation as a cover for criminal behavior. He noted that Ekpa has characterized himself as merely a "content creator," downplaying the seriousness of his actions.
"This arrest is very welcome because it sends a clear message to those at home who are instigating violence, encouraged by Ekpa," Abaribe stated. “We have consistently condemned his activities in the Southeast, which do not represent the values of the Igbo people.”
He further criticized the actions of individuals in the region who have distorted the peaceful quest for a referendum championed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), turning it into a platform for chaos and violence.
Abaribe concluded by reiterating that the actions associated with Ekpa and his faction are detrimental to the goals of the Biafran movement and the wider community in the Southeast.
