A petrol tanker explosion in Ibadan has claimed the life of its driver and injured another person, according to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Akinyinka revealed that the tanker lost control, collided with two other trucks, and somersaulted into a pit before catching fire.
The incident occurred around Fijabi House, Agbowo, on the Ojoo/Iwo Road Expressway. “The agency received a distress call about the fire incident at 2:45 a.m. and promptly deployed personnel to the scene,” Akinyinka said.
He confirmed that the driver was burned to death while the motor boy was rescued and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment.
On arrival, firefighters found three trucks, spaced about 20 meters apart, involved in the fire. They managed to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.
“The tanker was completely destroyed, but the other two trucks were salvaged,” Akinyinka added. He also noted that the agency's operations team, along with the police and other security personnel, ensured safety and prevented chaos at the scene.
