A 19-year-old robbery suspect, identified as Sodiq Oyedokun, has expressed his disillusionment after being apprehended by the Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun, during a robbery incident in Akure, the state capital. Oyedokun was among 21 individuals arrested in connection with various criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping.
In a candid interview, Oyedokun shared that he inherited a traditional bulletproof and anti-arrest vest from his late father, a herbalist, and had believed it possessed mystical powers. He claimed the vest was intended to shield him from gunfire and enable him to evade capture during criminal acts. However, his first venture into using the garment during a robbery went awry.
"The bulletproof vest failed me because I should have disappeared from the scene of the operation," Oyedokun lamented. "I don't understand why it let me down. I was supposed to vanish and not get caught when the Amotekun personnel arrived."
Despite his faith in the supernatural capabilities of the vest, Oyedokun was captured along with other suspects, who had reportedly been terrorizing local communities with their criminal activities.
Amotekun's commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that all suspects had been profiled thoroughly and would face legal action following the completion of investigations. The operation aims to crack down on a wave of crime affecting the region.
