Forty-seven-year-old nurse, Ejezie Udochukwu, has shared the unbearable grief of losing his three children under shocking and mysterious circumstances in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A Devastating Discovery
On February 1, 2025, Udochukwu’s wife, who resides with their children in Nnewi while he works in Edo State, returned from an official assignment around 5 p.m. to find the house unusually quiet. Expecting her children to welcome her, she was met instead with an eerie silence.
Concerned, she checked the kitchen, only to find that the food she had left for them remained untouched. She began searching, asking neighbors and friends if they had seen the children. By 8 p.m., with no sign of them, panic set in.
The search led to a chilling revelation—her three children, Chikaima (9), Chimdirim David (5), and Chimziterem Dominica (8), had been killed and stuffed inside a freezer in their home.
A Grieving Father’s Pain
Udochukwu, who received the devastating news while in Edo State, recalls the agony of hearing about his children’s deaths over the phone. His wife, too, was shielded from the gruesome sight, as those around her struggled to break the news gently.
Describing his children, he said, “Chikaima was exceptionally brilliant, known as the ‘Kri Kri Star’ in school. Chimziterem was the voice of reason in our home, and little Chimdirim had an angelic way of singing to God.”
Unanswered Questions
With no visible injuries apart from nosebleeds, the cause of death remains uncertain. The family insists their children never played inside the freezer, dismissing the possibility of an accident. “There was no chair nearby to indicate they climbed in themselves,” Udochukwu explained.
Despite the tragedy, he remains hopeful for justice. “The police are investigating, and I trust them to uncover the truth,” he said, adding that no arrests have been made yet.
Coping with the Loss
For Udochukwu and his wife, the pain is indescribable. “Losing one child is devastating—losing three at once is unimaginable,” he lamented. Their eldest son, who is in seminary school, has yet to be informed.
While the tragedy has shattered their lives, Udochukwu remains devoted to keeping his children’s memory alive. “I will enlarge their photographs and look at them every day. They were a special gift to me.”
As investigations continue, the grieving family holds on to the hope that justice will be served.
