In a recent statement, Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, Lagos State, provided clarity on the transfer of crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to a Maximum Security Custodial Centre.
Anugwa revealed that Bobrisky's transfer was prompted by the presence of certain female characteristics, including breasts, which raised concerns for his safety in the general prison population. The official emphasized that the decision was made to protect Bobrisky from potential abuse and threats from other inmates.
"The facility’s Admission Board convened and determined that placing Bobrisky under protective custody was essential, adhering to international best practices for the welfare of inmates," Anugwa stated.
Additionally, Bobrisky has opted not to consume the standard prison meals and has requested permission for self-feeding, a provision allowed under Nigerian law. He has identified two individuals, Abiola and Moji Okuneye, to supply him with food.
Despite reports suggesting that Anugwa faced suspension in relation to the Bobrisky case, he maintained that his suspension was unfounded and only circulated via social media, asserting that he continues to fulfill his official duties without any formal notification of suspension.
