Yoruba movie actress Damipe Adekoya has shared some of the challenges she has faced in the industry, including an incident where she was denied a movie role after refusing an actor’s advances.
Speaking in an interview on Debbie Show TV, Adekoya recounted how an actor invited her to a movie location in another state, expecting an intimate relationship. When she declined, he reassigned the role to another actress and sent her home without payment.
“There are a lot of challenges in the movie industry, especially for women. Some actors still demand sex in exchange for roles,” she revealed. “An actor invited me to a movie location, thinking he would have the opportunity to sleep with me. He refused to provide a room for me, insisting that I stay in his. I declined because he was married, and I was about to get married myself. As a result, he gave the role to another actress and refused to pay me for my work.”
The actress’s revelation sheds light on the exploitation some women face in the industry, reigniting discussions on the need for ethical practices and better protections for female actors.
