Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, has explained the decision to provide water and biscuits to protesters during the recent nationwide demonstration carried out by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Fayoade stated that the provision was made to prevent anyone from collapsing due to the long trek and intense heat.

He emphasized the importance of providing the demonstrators with the necessary energy for a successful protest. Fayoade further highlighted that the gesture was a small way to support the participants and ensure their well-being.

According to NAN, many demonstrators eagerly received the refreshments distributed by the police officers from patrol cars. Fayoade confirmed that the demonstration was peaceful and that no arrests were made. Moving forward, the police will continue to ensure the safety and security of the people and property in Lagos.

Fayoade urged the public to collaborate with law enforcement and promptly report any criminal activities. The NLC organized the protests, which aimed to draw attention to the challenges faced by the country due to the depreciation of the naira and the removal of gasoline subsidies, leading to increased costs of goods and services.
