President Bola Tinubu has provided insights into the recent increase in petrol prices in Nigeria, emphasizing that the decision is part of a broader effort to allocate more resources toward substantial infrastructure development. His remarks came during a meeting with the Nigerian community in China on Friday, as he concluded his official engagements in the country.

Addressing members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization in China (NIDO China) at the China World Hotel in Beijing, Tinubu highlighted the need for Nigeria to adopt bold reforms in order to create infrastructure comparable to that of China. He stated, "Nigeria is going through reforms, and we are taking very bold and unprecedented decisions."

Tinubu acknowledged the public’s concerns regarding rising fuel costs, but framed the increase as a necessary step towards achieving sustainable development. "Can we develop good roads like you have here? You see electricity being constant in quantity and quality. You see water supply, constant and running, and you see their good schools."

He challenged the audience to consider the long-term benefits of these tough decisions, asserting, "If we cannot take hard decisions to pave the way for a country that is blessed and so talented, what kind of future are we handing over to our children?"

The President's remarks resonated with the audience, as he stressed the importance of innovative education and fostering a conducive business environment. "We want our children to be in good schools, not tattered huts and dilapidated buildings. One economic action leads to another, and it is in your hands to build our nation," he said, reiterating his commitment to effective leadership and national progress.

Acknowledging the challenges of achieving a national consensus, Tinubu expressed his determination to make difficult choices to propel the country forward, stating, "We are focused, and I have a very good team." His visit to China underscored a commitment to replicate the country's infrastructure successes in Nigeria, inspiring hope among Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
