YAWI Celebrates International Day of the Girl Child, Empowers Young Girls in Ibadan

The Executive Director, Young and Woman Initiative (YAWI) Ambassador Adebobola Agbeja has celebrated International Day of the Girl Child alongside the empowerment of the girl child in Oyo State.

Seven schools participated in the event, including Lead City International School, Beautiful Star, Olorunsogo, United Missionary Comprehensive College, Molete, The Vale College, Goshen High School, Queen's College, Apata, and Nurul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Molete at a conference held at the Zontal House, Jericho, Ibadan.

AGBEJA who emphasized the importance of girl child empowerment and confidence highlighted the essay competition on "Breaking Barriers: The Role of Technology and Innovation in Advancing Opportunities for Nigerian Girls." The winners were: Ayoadebowale Tamilore (The Vale College) - 1st Position, Adeyemo Esther (United Missionary Comprehensive College) - 2nd Position and Aluko Atinuke (Queen's College) - 3rd Position.

Ambassador Agbeja delivered a lecture on menstrual hygiene, stressing the importance of proper care during menstruation. Mrs. Oyedoyin Baoku spoke on "Choosing a Career Path," emphasizing the importance of passion and self-awareness in career choices.

The event also featured a breakout session, ice-breaker games, and a presentation of gifts and certificates to the essay competition winners. Refreshments and sanitary pads were distributed to the students.

Ambassador Adebobola said YAWI's International Day of the Girl Child event aimed to inspire and empower young girls to reach their full potential.
