A 24-year-old man, Yunusa Isa, has been arrested by the Yobe State Police Command for the alleged murder of his business partner, Lawan Adamu, in a bid to evade repayment of a N500,00
0 loan. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2024, near the Nayi Nawa bypass in Damaturu.
According to police reports, the body of Lawan Adamu was discovered with severe throat injuries and multiple stab wounds. A blood-stained knife was recovered from the crime scene, indicating foul play.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday. Initially, Yunusa Isa denied any involvement in the murder. However, after intense questioning by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he confessed to committing the crime.
The investigation revealed that Lawan Adamu was both Isa's employer and business partner in the engine oil trade. It was reported that Isa borrowed N500,000 from Adamu last year, entering into a profit-sharing agreement. As Isa failed to meet the terms of the agreement, Adamu subsequently demanded repayment. In a shocking act, Isa allegedly killed Adamu to avoid settling the debt.
“The swift resolution of this case demonstrates our commitment to justice and public safety,” DSP Abdulkarim stated, underscoring the police's dedication to addressing violent crimes in the region.
