Zimbabwe has introduced an innovative HIV prevention injection that provides two months of protection against infection.

The drug, known as Injectable cabotegravir (CAB_LA), is now available for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), offering a convenient and effective method of preventing HIV transmission for individuals at high risk.

Unlike the conventional daily pill regimen for PrEP, this injection only needs to be administered once every two months, making it a more manageable option for those seeking protection against the virus.

Dr. Misheck Ruwende, a respected figure in the medical community, expressed his enthusiasm for this development and revealed that Zimbabwe has already had its first recipient of the HIV prevention injection. He described it as a convenient alternative to daily pills.
