Peter Fregene, a former goalkeeper for Nigeria’s national football team, is in critical condition and currently on life support at a hospital in Ohara, Delta State. The alarming news was shared by Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami on Wednesday, who called for urgent prayers and support for the ailing sports icon.
In a heartfelt statement, Odegbami said, “Peter Fregene is in the hospital and on life support. His situation is critical. What Peter Fregene needs the most now are our collective prayers that the will of His Creator be done!”
Odegbami also addressed concerns regarding fundraising efforts, clarifying, “I am not raising or collecting any funds on behalf of Peter’s family. If the need arises, and I am requested and authorized to do so, I shall.”
Odegbami expressed deep gratitude for the community's support, stating, “I thank all Nigerians for their concern and response to the humble cry of their hero currently in distress.”
Fregene, who played for the Super Eagles from 1968 to 1971, represented Nigeria at the 1968 Olympics and remains a celebrated figure in the country’s football history.
