Ridwan Oyekola ‘Scorpion’ set to extend unbeaten run in Japan, as Hon. Sunday Oni seeks support for Ibadan-born boxer

All is now set for a blockbuster boxing bout between Ibadan-born Ridwan “Scorpion” Oyekola and Japanese boxer Keisuke Matsumoto at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan tomorrow August 30th, 2023.

Both boxers are locking horns for the Japanese National Featherweight and the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Featherweight titles.

At the weigh-in event done for both boxers, Ridwan came in with a figure of 56.7kg while his opponent weighed 56.9kg.

Keisuke Matsumoto after the weigh-in spoke ahead of Wednesday’s bout saying it will be a technical battle between himself and the Nigerian but the Home-boy says he will concentrate on his strengths which are his quick feet and jabs.

Ridwan on the other hand said: “Tomorrow I will give 100% effort and do my best. I want to have a good match and I will win to become the champion.”

In 15 professional fights of Ridwan Oyekola, he has had 12 victories of which 7 were knockouts, 1 draw and 2 losses while his Japanese opponent has 8 fights with no losses but 7 knockouts in the process.

While appreciating the effort of sports journalists in Oyo state during the presentation of the fight souvenirs to selected Sports OAP's in the state, a former House of Representatives candidate, Honourable Sunday Oni, solicited support from the state government and well meaning Nigerians, to enable the boxer achieve the desired victory in the Asian country.
