WhatsApp, one of the world's most popular messaging apps, is constantly improving and adding new features to extend its capabilities. However, the end of the road is inevitable for some older devices.
According to a report from CanalTech, WhatsApp will stop receiving updates on a total of 35 mobile phones that have older versions of Google and Apple operating systems. The list includes models from Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Sony, LG, and Apple.
The devices set to lose WhatsApp support in 2024 include:
- Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Express 2, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4, and more
- Motorola Moto G and Moto X
- iPhone 5, 5C, 6, 6S, and SE
- Huawei Ascend, C199, GX1s, and Y625
- Lenovo 46600, A858T, P70, and S890
- Sony Xperia Z1 and E3
- LG Optimus 4X HD, Optimus G, and Optimus L7
Many of these devices are over 7 years old, with some users still relying on them due to the hardware capabilities or inability to upgrade. However, WhatsApp is now focusing on newer hardware and updated software, leaving these older models behind.
WhatsApp currently recommends using the app on devices with Android 5.0 or later, or iPhones with iOS 12 or later. Users of the listed devices may want to consider upgrading their smartphones to ensure they can continue using WhatsApp securely in the future.
