Conjoined twins Carmen and Lupita Andrade have taken to TikTok to address commonly asked questions and dispel myths about their lives. The 23-year-old twins, who share organs below the waist, have amassed millions of views on their video, where they discuss their unique experiences.
Carmen and Lupita clarified that while they may share a bloodstream and physical connection, they are still two distinct individuals with separate identities. Despite sharing certain bodily functions, such as the effects of alcohol consumption, they maintain their individuality.
The twins also revealed that they have separate brains, allowing them to have different sleep patterns. Carmen shared a humorous anecdote about how she falls asleep quickly when her boyfriend stays over, while Lupita stays awake talking with him. Furthermore, Carmen and Lupita disclosed that they lack control over each other’s limbs, even when one is operating a vehicle. However, they acknowledged that their lives are intertwined, as they explained that if one of them were to die, the other would soon follow due to shared bodily systems and the resulting risk of sepsis.
The twins also addressed inquiries about their sex life, stating that they share a reproductive system but have endometriosis and pelvic pain, making it difficult for them to conceive. Nonetheless, Carmen expressed that she and her boyfriend have no desire to have children. Carmen has been dating her boyfriend, Daniel, for three years and emphasized that he is dating her, not her sister, who identifies as asexual. Carmen appreciated how Daniel treated her as an individual and did not fetishize their unique circumstance.
The article also touched on the wedding of conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel, with Abby marrying Josh Bowling in 2021. However, the news of their wedding only recently came to light, and interestingly, Brittany was not listed as a witness. Another sister, Morgan, was listed, and Abby changed her last name, resulting in two surnames within the same body.
While some conjoined twins have undergone separation surgeries, Carmen and Lupita determined that the risks associated with their shared internal structure make it too dangerous for them. The twins shared that they have grown accustomed to their situation and do not miss having individual independence. They explained that after a long day, they sometimes crave personal time and turn to different devices for their own separate activities. Overall, the twins emphasized that their conjoined existence is all they have ever known.
