An aide to former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has refuted reports claiming that the ex-governor has defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Speaking anonymously to Tribune Online in Sokoto on Tuesday, the aide described the reports as baseless.
Speculation about Bafarawa’s political allegiance spread across social media on Tuesday, fueling debates about his next move.
It is worth recalling that Bafarawa exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) late last year, stating his intention to withdraw from active politics and focus on developmental initiatives in northern Nigeria.
However, his aide dismissed the latest defection rumors, emphasizing, “We are not aware of this claim; we also came across it on social media.”
“I can confirm that we are investigating the source of this misinformation. His Excellency is currently outside the country for Umrah,” he added.
