The 2024 World Universities Rankings, released by Times Higher Education, has revealed the leading universities across 108 countries and regions. In Nigeria, a total of 39 universities made it onto the prestigious list, with Covenant University securing the number one position. Following closely behind is the University of Ibadan, while the Federal University of Technology, Akure and the University of Lagos take third and fourth places respectively.
Meanwhile, on a global scale, the University of Oxford retains its top spot for the eighth consecutive year. However, there have been some changes within the top five rankings. Stanford University has climbed to second place, pushing Harvard University down to fourth.
The latest rankings were determined through an extensive analysis that involved more than 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications. In addition, over 68,000 scholars worldwide provided survey responses. Times Higher Education stated that they collected a staggering 411,789 data points from over 2,673 institutions that participated in submitting data.
