Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, has initiated the distribution of one million bags of 10kg rice across Nigeria in support of the Federal Government’s Palliative Programme. The aim of this initiative is to combat hunger and ensure food security for Nigerians who are currently grappling with socio-economic hardship. The distribution of the rice was inaugurated simultaneously in Kano State, where Dangote resides, and in Lagos, the headquarters of Dangote Group.
Dangote stated that the one million bags of rice cost his company N5 billion to secure for Nigerians. Out of the total, 120,000 bags will be distributed to vulnerable individuals in both Kano and Lagos States. The remaining 860,000 bags will be allocated to the 34 other states of the Federation, as part of Dangote Group’s commitment to assisting the less privileged members of society.
Dangote emphasized that this project is a response to the harsh economic conditions faced by many Nigerians. The distribution of rice is in line with the company’s core value of compassion. This initiative follows Dangote Group’s other humanitarian efforts, including daily feeding of over 10,000 people in Kano and the ongoing Ramadan Feeding Programme in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State commended Aliko Dangote and his company for their philanthropic endeavors. He acknowledged that this distribution of rice is just one of many contributions made by Dangote Group that have positively impacted the people of Kano State. To ensure the effective delivery of the rice to the intended recipients, the state government has established a Special Committee supervised by the State Hisbah Command.
Governor Abba urged other well-to-do individuals in the state to follow Dangote’s example and carry out humanitarian activities. He prayed for Dangote’s continued prosperity and wisdom.
