Nigerian pop star Davido Adeleke has clarified the origins of his relationship with his newly wedded wife, Chioma. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Davido is seen preparing for their wedding and hugging his close friend Lati. During their conversation, Davido surprised everyone by saying, “You know it was Lati who introduced me to my wife.”
This revelation contradicts Davido’s previous accounts of how he met Chioma. Earlier this year, in an interview with YouTuber Tayo Aina, Davido had said he first saw Chioma while he was in a Prado car and called out to her, though she didn’t answer at the time. He said they later connected after Chioma came to Lagos.
Lateef Biola, better known as Lati, has been with Davido since the pop star was ten years old. Lati is the director of Latino General Merchants Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas company in Lagos, and is also in charge of A&R (artists and repertoire) for Davido’s record label, DMW. He graduated from the Department of Mass Communication at Lagos State University in 2002.
In the recent video, Davido and his friends enthusiastically cheered for Lati, acknowledging the role he played in introducing Davido to his now-wife Chioma.
