Megastar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has unfollowed his junior colleague Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, popularly known as Portable, on Instagram.
The Afrobeats superstar had previously taken care of Portable during his visit to the United States, providing him with financial assistance and expensive items.
However, upon his return to Nigeria, Portable began publicly criticizing Davido online. He claimed that Davido had given him “unhelpful advice” to sign with the Empire label instead of Sony Music, as Portable believed Sony would provide him with better opportunities for international recognition and a potential Grammy award.
Evidently displeased with Portable’s attitude, Davido has now unfollowed him on the social media platform.
In a video released by Portable, he elaborated on his grievances against Davido. Portable stated that he was invited by Davido, who provided him with food and a pair of sneakers. He claimed that Davido advised him to sign with Empire, despite being signed to a better distributor himself.
Portable further alleged that he was invited to hang out with Davido at a club, but was left waiting for five hours as the promised studio session never materialized.
In contrast, Portable praised other artists, such as Olamide, who he said had provided him with a verse the same day they met. He also mentioned that UK rapper Skepta had given him £5,000 and introduced him to his distributors and promoters.
Portable maintained that while he may be perceived as “weird,” he knows where he is going and is confident in his own path.
The public fallout between Davido and Portable has raised questions about the dynamics within the Nigerian music industry, where established artists often mentor and support emerging talents.
