In a monumental boost to Nigeria’s energy sector, billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Deji Adeleke, has announced the completion of a 1250-megawatt power plant located in Ajebamidele, Ondo State.
Dr. Adeleke, who is the father of internationally acclaimed singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, disclosed the development on Sunday during the 11th undergraduate and 7th postgraduate convocation ceremony of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, where he also serves as Pro-Chancellor.
According to him, the power plant is now fully completed and ready to commence operations once it is connected to the national gas grid.
“The power plant is ready. I am only waiting to be connected to the gas grid to start generating power. That plant will employ over 2,000 engineers and other associated workers,” Dr. Adeleke stated.
When commissioned, the 1250MW facility will rank among the largest privately-led power projects in Nigeria’s history, representing a major milestone in efforts to tackle the country’s enduring electricity shortages.
The power project also signals growing private sector confidence in Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape, with experts describing it as a potential game-changer for both industrial and domestic power supply in the region.
Stakeholders in the energy sector have lauded Adeleke’s initiative as a bold and strategic move, capable of inspiring further private investment in the country’s critical power infrastructure.
