The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the sudden and mysterious death of Chief Love Shimite Bello, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export.
According to Leadership, the circumstances surrounding her death have raised serious concerns, prompting authorities to place her husband under protective custody.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that Chief Bello’s husband was the first to report her death early Monday morning. However, tensions quickly escalated after members of the deceased’s family accused him of potential involvement and allegedly issued threats against him.
“He called to report her death and also informed us he was receiving threats from her family,” Edafe said. “For his own safety, we took him into protective custody. He has not been arrested.”
The police have since launched a formal investigation following a complaint filed by Bello’s relatives. Edafe emphasized that no conclusions have been drawn yet, and only a full autopsy can determine whether her death was due to natural causes or foul play.
Chief Bello was a well-known figure in Delta State’s economic development efforts, especially in trade and export. Her unexpected passing has sent shockwaves through both the political and business communities.
The police have assured the public of a transparent and thorough investigation, with autopsy results expected to provide further clarity on the cause of death.
