Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Mohbad, has confirmed that he has served a notice of the pending DNA test application on his son’s estranged wife, Wunmi, through substituted means.
According to the report, the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu granted the order last week Monday, allowing the Aloba family to use alternative legal means to effect service on Wunmi.
The family’s lawyer, Monisola Odumosu, stated that the notice was pasted at Wunmi’s last known address earlier on Friday. Odumosu added that the law required the application to use other legal means to effect service on the respondent, and the court had granted the order in this regard.
The Aloba family had filed a suit seeking a DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam. The family sought an order from the court directing that the test be conducted at a recognized and accredited medical facility in the state, at the expense of the applicant. They also sought an order directing Wunmi to submit herself and Liam for the DNA test.
The lawyer revealed that an earlier attempt to serve the court process on Mohbad’s wife at her Lekki home on Friday, March 8, was unsuccessful.
Mohbad, a former Marlian Music signee, died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, with the circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media. The Lagos State Police Command had inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death, leading to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry.
The singer’s body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, to unravel the cause of his death.
