The Managing Director (MD) of Skylink Medical Centre in Elepe-Ikorodu, Tayo Shakirudeen, has been arrested by the Onikan zone 2 police command headquarters in Lagos for allegedly operating as a fraudulent medical practitioner.
Acting on intelligence gathered from the Elepe community regarding Shakirudeen’s activities, a team of detectives, led by SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, swiftly moved to apprehend the suspect. Upon searching his facility, two suspected forged certificates were uncovered – one from Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun state and the other from the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council.
In a statement signed by the command’s public relations officer, SP Ayuba Umma, the suspect confessed to electronically fabricating the certificates, admitting that his actual qualification is only a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE). Shakirudeen also disclosed that he employed a total of six staff, two of whom are trained nurses, while the remaining four are untrained individuals.
Further investigations revealed that Shakirudeen had performed three surgeries, including two Cesarean sections and one appendectomy, during his three years of unlawful medical practice. However, his facility has now been sealed off by the authorities.
The arrest of Tayo Shakirudeen has sent shockwaves through the Elepe community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of residents who may have been treated by the fake doctor. The Onikan zone 2 police command has assured the public that the necessary legal actions will be taken to ensure justice is served in this case.
