Victoria Idowu, a middle-aged woman, has tragically taken her own life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room in the Magboro area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The son of the deceased, upon returning from a church service, discovered his mother’s lifeless body hanging from a rope. The incident was reported to the police, and officers from the Ibafo Division promptly visited the scene. No suicide note was found during the search of the room.
Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp conversation with PUNCH Online. She stated that an investigation has been initiated to understand the circumstances that led to the suicide. Odutola emphasized the importance of providing support to individuals suffering from mental health challenges, urging the public to be more attentive to their loved ones’ well-being.
In a separate report by PUNCH Online on February 6, it was revealed that Adaze Jaja, a 400-level female student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, also took her own life. The 31-year-old was found unconscious in a hotel room, with an empty bottle of insecticide beside her. Odutola confirmed the incident and emphasized the illegality of suicide.
