In a recent conference on Public Wealth Management in Abuja, Vice-President Kashim Shettima accused politicians who lost in the 2023 general election of plotting to throw Nigeria into anarchy and sabotage in the country by smuggling food out to other countries, thereby triggering food price hikes and worsening the cost of living and inflation. He claimed that 45 trucks smuggling food out of the country were intercepted, with 32 illegal smuggling routes discovered in the Ilela axis alone.

According to Shettima, the interception of these trucks led to a decrease in the price of maize. He stated that the price dropped from N60,000 to N50,000, emphasizing that there are individuals intent on undermining the nation and creating chaos due to their failure to gain power in the last election.

Shettima stressed the need for unity and urged the country to move beyond politics, focusing on governance instead. He warned against the actions of desperate politicians advocating for violence and the destabilization of Nigeria, comparing the situation to what Lebanon experienced. However, he did not mention the names of the politicians involved in the alleged economic sabotage.
