The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced plans for its 9th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to take place from February 17 to 23, 2025. The week-long event will include academic celebrations, infrastructural inaugurations, and community engagement programs. As part of the ceremonies, the university will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on five distinguished Nigerians.
A statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday by Professor Bolanle Tajudeen Opoola, Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee, confirmed that the event will begin on Monday, February 17, with a press conference by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, at 1:00 pm in the Council Chamber. This will be followed by the commissioning of over 20 infrastructural projects undertaken under his leadership.
Major Infrastructure Projects
At the Oye-Ekiti campus, several key projects will be inaugurated, including:
A 1,000-seat capacity hall
The Professor Abayomi S. Fasina Conference Centre
A 3-in-1 Faculty of Science Laboratory
A new Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centre
A Professorial Office Complex
A Postgraduate Studies Complex
Faculty buildings for Education and Law
An Innovation Hub
A Sports Complex Pavilion
Similar commissioning exercises will be held at the Ikole-Ekiti campus, including projects at the Institute of Part-Time Studies. The Ayedun-Ekiti campus will also benefit from several new facilities, such as an ultra-modern laboratory, modern lecture halls, a JAMB-standard CBT hall, a sports complex, and additional classrooms donated by Hon. Akintunde Rotimi.
Community Service and Other Key Events
As part of its commitment to social responsibility, FUOYE will provide free healthcare services to its host communities. The medical outreach will begin on February 18 at the palace of the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti and continue on February 19 at the Elekole’s palace in Ikole-Ekiti.
On February 20, the university will hold an induction ceremony for its Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Hall, Ikole campus, followed by the Vice-Chancellor’s Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony at the Faculty of Science Lecture Hall. The day will also feature the launch of a ₦100 billion Endowment Fund and a theatrical performance by students from the Department of Theatre and Media Arts.
Convocation Highlights
The official award of Bachelor’s degrees, Diplomas, and academic prizes will take place on February 21 at the 1,000-seat capacity hall, alongside a special Jummah service at the university mosque.
The grand convocation ceremony will be held on February 22, featuring a keynote lecture by Architect Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFUND. This will be followed by the conferment of postgraduate degrees and honorary doctorates.

Dr. Kalu Godwin Agabi (SAN), former Attorney General of the Federation
Chief Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria Limited
Mrs. Layal Jade Tinubu, entrepreneur and philanthropist
Chief Allen Ifechukwu Oyema, Executive Chairman of Air Peace
The convocation ceremonies will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service at the University Chapel on February 23.
