Nigerians were left horrified after gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi confessed to the brutal murder of a 24-year-old woman, Salome Enejo, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. Ajayi, who allegedly beheaded the young woman, claimed the crime stemmed from a disagreement over ₦3,000. His shocking admission has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

Enejo, a fresh graduate serving in Abuja, was identified as the victim of the gruesome act. The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed Ajayi’s arrest, revealing he was caught carrying a bag containing Enejo’s severed head in Orozo, a community near Abuja. Law enforcement suspects the crime may have been ritualistic in nature.

Social media users have strongly criticized Ajayi’s claims, with many questioning his relationship with the victim. While the singer referred to Enejo as his girlfriend, her family denied any romantic ties between the two. Critics also pointed to a Telegram post by Ajayi, where he invited women to a karaoke night, suggesting he may have lured Enejo under false pretenses.

The crime has reignited debates over law enforcement’s efficiency in handling such cases and the safety of women in Nigeria. Many have called for stringent investigations and stricter measures to deter gender-based violence. The outrage extends to faith leaders, with demands for greater scrutiny of individuals in religious roles.

The Nasarawa Police Command spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, assured the public that investigations are underway and promised a thorough pursuit of justice in this chilling case. Meanwhile, the public continues to mourn the loss of Salome Enejo, whose life was tragically cut short.
