Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has suspended the caretaker chairmen of the 18 local government areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The caretaker chairmen will remain suspended until the court determines the case. An Akure High Court, presided over by Justice Yemi Fasanmi, has granted an interim injunction filed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The injunction aimed to restrain the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from inaugurating any individuals who were not democratically elected as members of caretaker committees responsible for administering the affairs of the local councils and LCDAs.
The suspension of the caretaker chairmen came after they resumed office, despite Justice Fasanmi barring them from operating because they had been sworn in before the order was granted. Aiyedatiwa’s suspension of the caretaker chairmen was conveyed in a letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, signed by Alonge Adewale.
The letter states, “It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs that despite the suspension of all recently appointed caretaker committee members for Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state, by a court of competent jurisdiction, some individuals in these former positions are still parading themselves in those posts.”
