Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, strongly condemned the assault on two officials of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) by personnel from the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ibadan.

The incident occurred when the OYRTMA officials apprehended an Immigration officer for a traffic violation. Governor Makinde expressed his outrage at the inhumane treatment the OYRTMA officials suffered and emphasized that Oyo State upholds the rule of law, urging everyone to abide by traffic regulations regardless of their status.

During his visit to the assaulted officials and the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Governor Makinde assured the victims that the state government would take appropriate measures and ensure that the culprits faced legal consequences.

He stated that such incidents were unacceptable and tasked the Attorney-General to handle the case. Furthermore, Governor Makinde advocated for improved cooperation among security agencies within the state and stressed the need to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

At the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Governor Makinde discussed the incident with Comptroller Abdulrasheed Ademola. He sought the cooperation of the authorities, both at the state and zonal levels, to address the matter comprehensively, emphasizing Oyo State’s commitment to the rule of law and its zero-tolerance policy towards traffic violations.
