In the early hours of today, a man named Ndubuisi Wilson Uwadiegwu, who was accused of beating his wife to death because of bread, was granted an interview by BBC News Pidgin where he explained what led to the death of his wife, Ogochukwu Uwadiegwu.
The man said, “before my wife died, she and my son were insulting me so out of anger, I broke the mirror and it mistakenly injured her. I beat up my son for joining my wife when she was insulting me that day.”
The man spoke further saying, “she asked me to bring money for bread and I did but she kept asking for more and I refused. Then, she started the insults.” He added, “I was not at home when she complained of being unwell but I came home and took her to the hospital. While there, she gave up as a result of internal bleeding which was caused by high blood pressure. This was what the autopsy revealed.”
On the end of the wife’s family, the husband was the one responsible for their daughter’s death because this is not the first time he would batter her. According to the deceased’s brother, they will not rest until justice prevails over the incident.
