A viral video has sparked outrage across Nigeria as a young Fulani herdsman brazenly defended the recent massacre of over 200 people in Benue State, describing the killings as retaliation for the loss of their cattle and kinsmen.
In the disturbing eight-minute, 45-second footage, which surfaced on social media over the weekend, the man — speaking in Hausa — boasted that he would not hesitate to kill 150 people in revenge for the death of a single cow. His comments were periodically translated into English by a narrator for non-Hausa speakers.
The unnamed speaker showed no remorse for the bloodshed, claiming the attack on Benue was only a fraction of what Fulani herders plan to unleash across other regions in Nigeria.
“So because we killed 200 people in Benue State, so what? Is that why you’re crying and complaining?” he said. “You haven’t seen anything yet.”
He went on to ridicule public outrage over the killings, contrasting it with the alleged killing of Fulani people and their livestock in the past. “You’re crying over 200 people, how many of our cows have been killed? How many of our people have died in the forests and in Ruga settlements?”
In one of the most chilling statements, he declared:
“I can kill 150 for one of my cows killed. I don’t forgive or forget. If you do me wrong, I take my revenge instantly. For me, it’s an eye for an eye.”
He ended his message with a dark warning, saying what happened in Benue is “just the beginning,” and that more attacks should be expected.
The video has sparked widespread condemnation online, with calls for security agencies to investigate the identity of the speaker and take immediate action. Many Nigerians have also renewed demands for stronger protection of communities vulnerable to herdsmen attacks.
