The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspect in the killing of Glory Adekolure, a University of Benin (UNIBEN) graduate.
According to the police, Adekolure, 22, was last seen on June 13, 2024, when she reportedly went to the university to submit her project. Her lifeless body was later found under a tree in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, close to her residence.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State, about 15 days after Adekolure’s death.
In a shocking revelation, the arrested suspect confessed to have killed four girls, including Adekolure. The suspect also revealed details of his criminal acts in a video currently circulating online.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, stated that the suspect has confessed not only to Adekolure’s murder but also to the killings of at least eight other young women.
“I am happy to inform the good people of Edo state and the good people of Nigeria that the killer of Glory Adekolure, a 22-year old final year Chemistry student of the University of Benin has been apprehended,” Adegboye said.
The commissioner added that the suspect was aware that the police were trailing him, and it was due to the “painstaking investigations of our anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit” that he was finally arrested.
Adegboye further stated that the suspect has not been paraded yet, as the police are still investigating the incident. The arrest of the suspected killer has brought some relief to the community, but the investigation is ongoing to ensure that justice is served.
