In a recent turn of events, a man has come forward to defend himself after ordering Mercy Chinwo’s husband to do a DNA test regarding their child’s alleged resemblance to popular gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey. The man, whose identity has been kept anonymous, claims that he did not say anything wrong and was only expressing his concerns as a fan of both artists.
The controversy began when the social media user noticed the striking resemblance between Mercy Chinwo’s child and Nathaniel Bassey. This observation quickly spread across the internet, leading to countless speculations and rumors. In the midst of this firestorm, Nathanial Bassey petitioned Inspector General of Police for defamation and cyberstalking.
Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey took legal action against the man and three other individuals for criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
Bassey’s lawyers submitted a petition to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on April 1, 2024. According to him, the social media users had spread a false allegation that Bassey was the father of another gospel singer’s child, causing it to go viral.
The lawyers have called on the police to investigate and prosecute the individuals named in the petition as Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and Dj Spoiltkid.
Bassey’s lawyers stated that their client is a gospel music minister whose work has positively impacted people worldwide.
