The explosion that occurred in the Bodija area of Ibadan on Tuesday evening shocked residents, as they initially believed it was an earthquake or a gas plant explosion. However, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, visited the scene and revealed that the explosion was a result of dynamites used for illegal mining in a residential building.
Hon. Abideen Adeaga, the Chairman of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA), has praised Governor Makinde for his prompt action and visit to the site of the incident. Adeaga stated that the governor’s immediate response showed true leadership qualities and set a good example for others to follow.
Adeaga also called on the police authority to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible for such illegal activities. He emphasized the need for swift action to deter others from engaging in similar acts.
The explosion caused significant damage to over fifty residential buildings and tragically resulted in the death of two individuals, with many others sustaining injuries. Adeaga expressed his condolences to the people of Oyo State and commended Governor Makinde for his concern and action in the aftermath of the incident.
As investigations into the cause of the explosion continue, the community hopes for answers to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The incident serves as a wake-up call for authorities to crack down on illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety and the well-being of residents.
