The federal government of Nigeria has promised that those responsible for the tragic Ibadan explosion will face justice. The explosion resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of properties worth millions of naira. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, expressed shock at the devastation and loss of lives, describing the disaster as man-made and regrettable.
During a visit to the scene of the blast, Mr. Alake was briefed on the state government’s rescue efforts. The head of the state’s disaster management team, Tope Alonge, highlighted the quick response of first responders and security agencies in minimizing the level of devastation and casualties. The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on security, Fatai Owoseni, also mentioned the inter-agency collaboration and support from the state government in preventing looting of victims’ properties.
Mr. Alake also visited injured victims at the University College Hospital (UCH) and conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s sympathies and assurance of assistance. He emphasized that the federal government would provide all the necessary support to help the victims recover.
In addition, Mr. Alake urged citizens to be safety conscious and report suspicious activities to security agencies. He commended the state’s swift and efficient emergency response system during a courtesy call to Governor Makinde.
The federal government has promised full disclosure of the investigation report and for those found responsible to face justice. Preventative measures will also be put in place to avoid a recurrence of such incidents.
The government’s commitment to justice and support for the victims is a positive step towards addressing the tragedy and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Oyo State.
