The man who died after falling from the 26-storey Cocoa House in Ibadan has been identified as 22-year-old Feranmi Akin-Akinye.
According to Newspeakonline, Akin-Akinye was a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), and was undergoing cybersecurity training at a company located on the eighth floor of the iconic building.
A neighbour, who spoke to Newspeakonline on condition of anonymity, revealed that the deceased lived with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, Ibadan, while his father resides in the United States.
The source alleged that Akin-Akinye had been instructed to install a large wall banner on the top floor of Cocoa House—an assignment typically handled by trained professionals using specialized equipment. “I blame the company for his death,” the neighbour said. “He was a humble, respectful young man from a good home. Despite having a car gifted by his parents, he never showed off. He was asked to do something beyond his training, and he agreed out of humility.”
The neighbour also claimed that the company tried to minimize the seriousness of the incident. “They claimed he was taken to the emergency ward, even though he was already dead. His mother wasn’t even contacted by the company—it was a stranger who called her. When staff from 32 FM tried to take photos, they were stopped. His body was quickly covered, and I heard it was severely mangled,” the source added.
Akin-Akinye was buried on Tuesday by his church, Winners Chapel. Meanwhile, his paternal relatives are reportedly considering legal action against the company over alleged negligence.
