In a recent development, the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all police officers assigned to former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello. This decision comes as the Nigerian Immigration Service had already placed Bello on its watchlist following allegations of money laundering.

According to a police wireless message, the order for the withdrawal was confirmed. The document, with reference number “CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/34”, stated that the IGP had instructed the removal of all policemen assigned to Bello. The message emphasized the importance of compliance and urged strict adherence to the directive.

Bello was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection to an alleged case of money laundering involving a staggering sum of N80.2bn. This led to the Nigerian Immigration Service placing him on its watchlist, restricting his movements.
