In a major escalation of Middle East tensions, Israel has confirmed launching a large-scale overnight airstrike on multiple military and industrial targets in and around the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that more than 60 fighter jets participated in the operation, which aimed to dismantle Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure. During the raid, approximately 120 precision-guided munitions were dropped on strategic sites.
Among the primary targets was the headquarters of SPND — Iran’s Organization for Defensive Innovation and Research — which Western intelligence agencies suspect is central to the country’s covert nuclear weapons program. Other targets reportedly included missile production facilities and sites manufacturing raw materials for missile engines.

The IDF said the strikes were based on “precise intelligence” and described the operation as one of the most significant ever carried out by Israel against Iran. While the full extent of the damage remains unconfirmed by Iranian authorities, the attack is expected to provoke a strong response from Tehran and has raised alarm over the potential for a wider regional conflict.
Israel’s action comes amid mounting global concern over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its growing influence across the Middle East. The airstrike reflects Israel’s enduring policy of taking preemptive measures against perceived existential threats.
