A fresh storm has erupted in Nigeria’s entertainment and media circles as Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo and controversial investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo engage in a fiery war of words, following explosive allegations and emotional outbursts over the death of Ojo’s mother, Victoria Fetuga.
The feud reignited after Kemi Olunloyo took to Facebook to debunk widespread rumours surrounding the late Fetuga’s death. In her post, Olunloyo stated that Fetuga, who passed away in her sleep on November 21, 2020, at age 67, died of complications from paranoid schizophrenia — and not from any alleged ritual sacrifice as some online conspiracy theorists have claimed.
“Contrary to rumours that she sacrificed her mom for fame, Iyabo Ojo’s mother actually died of paranoid schizophrenia,” Olunloyo wrote. “She abused the 67-year-old woman to the end.”
The statement sparked instant backlash, prompting a furious response from Iyabo Ojo in a viral Instagram Live session. In the video, the actress blasted Kemi Olunloyo for what she described as heartless and slanderous accusations — including linking her to the anonymous gossip blog Gistlover and implicating her in Olunloyo’s past jail term.
“You are an unfortunate person,” Ojo declared, visibly emotional. “I have removed ‘Aunty’ from your name. You’re now Kem Kem, and soon, just Kem, because you behave like a useless elder.”
She went further, issuing curses in Yoruba and calling on divine justice to fall on the one telling lies.
“If I am truly the one behind Gistlover, may all the curses you laid on me come to pass,” she said. “But if I’m innocent, may they return to you and your children.”
Iyabo Ojo also addressed claims that she had a hand in Olunloyo’s incarceration: “If I know anything about your prison story, let your curses work. But if not, may every single one return to you.”
She fiercely defended her relationship with her late mother, noting: “If you received even one-third of the love and care I gave my mom, your life wouldn’t be this bitter. You have no right to curse someone else’s child.”
The online community quickly exploded with reactions. While some praised Iyabo Ojo’s fiery clapback, others ridiculed the ongoing feud:
@teeto__olayeni: “Long overdue. Kemi and Lizzy have similar symptoms of madness.”
@bagsstatement.co: “I thought they said Gistlover was Tonto’s? Now it’s Iyabo’s? Kem Kem is clearly not okay.”
@olamiteebo: “Same Gistlover that dragged Iyabo too? This makes no sense.”
@morayormii_: “And this Kem Kem was just crying about trauma the other day. Now she’s back to curses.”
As tensions rise and insults fly, many see this as yet another chapter in the long and often chaotic saga between Nigerian celebrities and self-styled media critics. While Olunloyo has not yet issued a response to Ojo’s viral video, the internet continues to buzz with divided opinions.
One thing, however, is clear — the battle lines have been drawn, and Iyabo Ojo has made her stance known in no uncertain terms.
