In a show of support for academic excellence, the 1996 Set of the Abadina College Old Students Association (ACOSA) has rewarded the top 10 highest-scoring students in the recently concluded Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination with a total of N400,000.
The presentation, which took place at the premises of Abadina College, University of Ibadan, saw each of the students receive cash gifts in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
Representing the 1996 Set were Mrs. Folake Oketola and Ms. Rashidat Oyinlola, who urged the students to remain focused and committed to excellence as they journey through higher education.
According to them, the initiative was hurriedly arranged to ensure that deserving students were acknowledged and motivated. “You are the best, and you have made our school proud. Don’t be the victim of bad friends. Be good role models,” they advised. “This is just a token to show you that your efforts are being noticed. As long as you continue to stand out, more rewards will come.”
They also encouraged the students to be mindful of their choices and relationships, emphasizing that discipline and dedication would take them far in life.
Receiving the ACOSA team, the Principal of Abadina College Senior School, Mrs. Esther Rolayo Adegbayo, expressed deep appreciation to the alumni for their timely gesture.
“Abadina is known for greatness and service,” she said. “Those who graduated from this school about 29 years ago have deemed it fit to give back and invest in you. In 30 years’ time, you will also come back to give back to the school. If you win a World Cup, you win it first for yourself, then your family and community will celebrate you.”
She further applauded the ACOSA 1996 Set for reinforcing the culture of academic excellence as they prepare to mark the 30th anniversary of their graduation next year.
