A tragic case of gender-based violence has thrown a Benue family into mourning after 24-year-old Deborah Moses, from Ohuhu Owo, Oju Local Government Area of Benue State, was brutally murdered in Lagos by her ex-boyfriend, Lintex Ogale, a native of Otukpo, Idoma land.
Reports indicate that Deborah had ended the relationship with Ogale since last year, but he allegedly refused to move on. He was said to have repeatedly threatened that if he could not have her, no one else would.
On Wednesday night, the suspect reportedly disguised himself as a dispatch rider to gain entry into Deborah’s estate. Once inside her apartment, he stabbed her multiple times, leaving her lifeless in her own home.
Deborah, who had just completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and recently launched her career as an interior decorator, was described as a vibrant young woman with a bright future cut short in the most heartbreaking way.
Police confirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing.
Friends and family of the deceased are calling on Nigerians to amplify the demand for justice, insisting that the case must not be swept under the carpet like others.
> “If someone says they are no longer interested in a relationship, respect their decision. Love is never by force. It is wickedness and foolishness to take a life because of rejection,” the family said in a statement.
The incident happened on the very day the Igede Agba Festival was being celebrated, turning what should have been a day of joy into a day of unimaginable grief for the community.
The cry for justice continues to grow, as loved ones and advocates insist: Justice for Deborah Moses must prevail.
