Renowned Fuji singer, K1 De Ultimate, has addressed and refuted allegations of maltreatment made by former band member Ayankunle Ayanlowo. During a formal discussion with media professionals at his Mayegun Royal Resort in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, K1 provided insight into his relationship with the band and its formation.
K1 explained that his band operates like an organization, where members are hired and fired based on their commitment and dedication. He emphasized that joining the band is voluntary and members are free to leave if they find other opportunities.
The singer founded the band 52 years ago with seven to nine members, but it has since grown to 28 members. K1 mentioned that managing such a large group of people can be challenging, and some members have left and returned multiple times.
While admitting that some band members may not be genuinely passionate about music, K1 expressed his dedication to the band’s success and revealed that he has even borrowed funds to support them. However, he highlighted that the band members sometimes allow their egos to dictate their actions, threatening to leave and causing setbacks.
Addressing Ayanlowo’s claim of being underpaid and having his passport seized, K1 presented payment records and clarified the payment structure within the band. He shared that band members are paid weekly and provided evidence of a payment exceeding N120,000, contrary to Ayanlowo’s previous claim of only receiving N8,043 per show.
K1 mentioned that the income sharing ratio between him and the band has changed over time due to the increase in members, but it currently stands at 40:60, with both sides contributing ten percent to pay management staff. He also stated that the band has a policy of paying members who are unable to go on overseas tours.
Regarding the passport issue, K1 denied withholding anyone’s passport and explained that Ayanlowo eloped with two other band members in the 90s, taking his passport with him. He clarified that the passport is still with the British High Commission.
In response to Ayanlowo’s financial situation, K1 claimed that his band members are well-off and stated that Ayanlowo’s circumstances are unique to him.
