Adeolu Adeboye, son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), is under scrutiny for allegedly abandoning a major road construction project after receiving over N8 billion from the state government. The contract, awarded to Ronchess Global Resources Plc during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly only reached 30% completion despite significant financial investment.
A report from SaharaReporters indicates that Adeolu and his wife have been evading accountability for the funds that were allocated for the construction of an 8-kilometer road running from Wusasa to Danmagaji Nagoyi in Kaduna North Local Government Area. The project was initially awarded on September 15, 2020, with a completion deadline of January 2, 2021. However, as of May 16, 2024, the site was found abandoned by an inspection team from the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
In response to ongoing investigations by the Kaduna State Government and the House of Assembly into the alleged mismanagement of the project, Adeolu Adeboye has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Lagos (FHC/L/CS/1206/24). He seeks an injunction to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other authorities from arresting or detaining him in connection with the case.
The contract’s initial sum was N8.74 billion, which was later revised to N17.26 billion in December 2022. Despite substantial payments totaling N8,195,014,236.95, the project’s completion remains significantly behind schedule.
The EFCC, Inspector General of Police, and several other law enforcement agencies are named as respondents in the suit filed by Adeolu Adeboye. The ongoing investigation has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in public contracts in Kaduna State.
