A yet-to-be-identified man allegedly jumped into a river and drowned in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

The incident happened at about 12:30 PM on Tuesday at Meme Bridge, a few meters away from the Dunamis Church headquarters in Lokoja. The deceased, a tricycle rider, reportedly arrived at the bridge, parked his tricycle, and jumped into the river.

A witness, who wants to remain anonymous, said he was shocked to see the man jumping from the top of the bridge into the river. He said the economic hardship facing Nigerians may be one of the reasons for him to take his life.

“There is nothing anybody can do when the Keke Man jumped into the river. When he jumped, we saw a snake and there was nothing anyone could do at that moment,” he lamented. The corpse has yet to be recovered at the time of filing this report.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident, stating that his men have been mobilized to recover the body.
