The Nigeria Police Force faces a dilemma in its investigation into allegations of Russian KGB (Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti) infiltration of the National Assembly, following a petition by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Sources indicate that the police had invited Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) for questioning after his colleague, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central), submitted a petition on March 5, 2025. The suspended lawmaker had called for an investigation into Karimi’s claim that the KGB had infiltrated the National Assembly, posing a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

In her petition, Akpoti-Uduaghan referenced a report titled “KGB Agent Group Warns Senate: A Call for Vigilance Amidst Threats to Democracy,” which Karimi allegedly shared on the 10th Senate’s official WhatsApp group on February 23, 2025. She urged the police to take the matter seriously, warning that no nation could afford to overlook such a security concern.

Responding to the police invitation, Senator Karimi appeared at the Louis Edet House on Monday, where he reportedly admitted to sharing the report. A police source described the session as “positive,” noting that Karimi made useful disclosures. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Akpoti-Uduaghan distanced herself from her petition and ignored repeated police invitations.

“We reached out to her after Karimi’s session, but she has refused to appear before us,” a police source revealed. “She initially claimed she was outside the country, but a viral video of her in her constituency contradicts that. It raises questions about her real motives.”

The source added that the police were reluctant to get entangled in Senate intrigues but found it troubling that Akpoti-Uduaghan might be using law enforcement to settle political scores. “It would be scandalous if she attempted to drag the police into her political battles,” the source stated.

When asked about the next steps, the source suggested that the authorities would determine how to handle what now appears to be a frivolous petition.
