Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ambassador Ibironke Adefope, former Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia and a respected member of the Oyo State Elders’ Council.

Describing her passing as a significant loss to the state, Governor Makinde paid tribute to the late diplomat, calling her an “Amazon and an icon” whose contributions left lasting imprints.

“The news of Mama Adefope’s death came to me as a rude shock,” the governor said. “However, we must accept the will of God, who gives and takes life.”

Makinde noted that Ambassador Adefope lived an impactful and admirable life, upholding the esteemed legacies of the Akinloye and Vaughan families while also carving out her own path of service and excellence.

He extended his condolences to the Akinloye and Vaughan families, her immediate relatives, and members of the Oyo State Elders’ Council.

“Mama was a remarkable woman who contributed immensely to the growth and progress of Oyo State and Nigeria,” he said. “Her wisdom, support, and unwavering commitment to the state will be sorely missed. May the Lord grant comfort to all she left behind.”
