Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the death of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Makinde also commiserated with the widow of the late former president, Hajia Aisha Buhari, and the entire Buhari family, praying that Almighty God grants repose to his soul.
The governor described Buhari’s death as “unexpected,” but acknowledged that the former president made notable contributions to Nigeria during his time in office.
“While the news of his passing came as a shock, we cannot ignore the fact that he served Nigeria in multiple capacities, including as a former Military Head of State and democratically elected President. May God give his family the strength to bear this great loss and grant him Aljanah Firdaus,” Makinde said.
In a related development, the Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, also mourned the passing of the former president. Olowofela, a former Commissioner for Education in Oyo State, described Buhari as a “symbol of integrity and discipline.”
In a statement he personally signed shortly after the news broke, Olowofela said: “President Muhammadu Buhari was a man of purpose and unwavering national commitment. His leadership style, though often debated, was guided by a passion for the unity and development of Nigeria.”
Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country and beyond, reflecting Buhari’s wide-reaching influence and long-standing role in Nigeria’s political evolution.
